History

Established in 1999, Equale & Cirone represents a union of three former sole practitioners. Joseph A. Equale, Anthony W. Cirone, and Derek J. DeLeo, have varying industry expertise and experience, which enhances the firm's capabilities beyond the traditional three partner firm.

The firm's focus is on finding creative solutions to problems and effectively dealing with the concerns of its business and individual clients. We specialize in working with owners and managers of closely held businesses. Our services include tax compliance and consulting, financial counseling, and assurance and advisory services.

About the Principals

Joseph A. Equale, CPA, has an undergraduate degree from St. John's University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Bridgeport. Mr. Equale worked in major corporations and professional service firms, prior to establishing his professional practice in 1994. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. Joe is a former member of the Board of Governors and a Past-President of the 6,500 member Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is currently serving a three year term as a member of the Governing Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, Joe is a member of the state society of Certified Public Accountants in New York and serves as a Corporator of Union Savings Bank, and as a director of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce and Family & Childrens Aid, Inc. of Danbury.

Anthony W. Cirone, Jr., CPA, received his undergraduate degree from Western Connecticut State University. Prior to establishing his professional practice in 1992, Tony was an accounting supervisor at a large Connecticut-based professional services firm. He is licensed to practice public accountancy by the State of Connecticut, and is a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, Tony serves as a Corporator of Newtown Savings Bank, is an active member of the Greater Danbury, Newtown, and Ridgefield Chambers of Commerce, and is the current president of the Danbury Chapter of the Business Network International.

Derek J. DeLeo, CPA, ABV, received his undergraduate degree in Marketing and minor in Accounting from Providence College. Before starting his practice in 1998 Derek worked as a manager in a local firm for six years. He is licensed to practice public accounting in the State of Connecticut and is a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Derek is accredited in business valuations a designation issued by the AICPA. Active in professional and community affairs, Derek is a member of the CSCPA Federal Taxation Committee and the CSCPA Governmental and Auditing Committee. He also is a member of the New Milford Lions Club where he served as past president and past treasurer and a member of the New Milford Chamber of Commerce.
